Volunteers

Tall Ship Celebration: Bay City has been fortunate indeed to have had the support of 400 to 500 volunteers for our first three events in 2001, 2003 and 2006. Volunteers have made the smashing success of the event possible.

Our volunteers are special people who, first and foremost, are ambassadors for our community. They attended an orientation meeting prior to the event and then committed to a minimum of 2 four-hour shifts during the event. Tall Ship Celebration is an outdoor event.  Our volunteers spend a lot of time on their feet during their shifts.

For their hard work and long hours, Tall Ship Celebration volunteers received a Volunteer T-Shirt and have access to a shaded break area and refreshments. Those who worked at least 3 four - hour shifts  received a Souvenir Passport (admission for the entire festival and ship boarding privileges). All who donated their time were invited to a Volunteer Recognition event held shortly after the Tall Ships left.

So thanks again to our wonderful volunteers:

250 Ship Ambassadors
Who worked on or near the ships, assisting visitors and ship's crew, maintaining order in lines and answering questions. Sailing experience not necessary, but helpful.

100 Passport Sellers
Who worked at one of the four Ticket Centers selling daily tickets and Souvenir Passports and checking pre-purchased tickets and Passports for entry, maintain order in lines and answer questions.

50 Parking Lot Attendants
Who worked at one of two parking lots directing traffic, assisting guests and collecting parking fees.

50 Children's Activity Volunteers
Who workd at one of several craft areas for children (i.e., Build a Tall Ship Kit, Knot Tying, Paint a Giant Mural, etc.). These wonderful people submitted references and passed a required criminal background check.

100 "Ask Me" Volunteers
Who roamed the festival grounds to assist lost or confused visitors, assist with directions, answer questions, and maintain order at Ticket Centers.

20 Communications Center Volunteers
Whose excellent communication and problem-solving skills made the Communications Center work by fielding questions, solving problems, and maintaining communication between organizers, ships and volunteers.

10 Team Leaders
WHo made a dawn-to-dusk commitments for the entire event. These hard working people were responsible for activities and volunteers on ships, at Ticket Centers, in the Communications Center and in other key areas during the festival.

THANKS TO EVERYONE! It was a great event that could not have been accomplished without our volunteers.
